Muskegon Opportunity participates annually in several statewide initiatives organized with the Michigan College Access Network (MCAN). Starting in 2015, the College Cash Campaign was added to the suite of such initiatives offered. While FAFSA completion is only one step in the college-going process, it is the only way for students to unlock their access to federal loans and grants, statewide scholarships and grants, and often institutional and community based scholarships and grants. Districts are encouraged to participate in this annual campaign and not only help Michigan, but also Muskegon County launch a statewide campaign around FAFSA completion!
As local Host Sites your district agrees to accept and partner to the following:
MCAN will provide:
TA and support around the FAFSA form including a 3 hours in-depth FAFSA training provided by national college affordability training experts uAspire
Connection to experts in FAFSA completion to answer specific nuanced questions
Access to name-by-name FAFSA completion data
Access to best practices listserv for statewide initiatives
Host Sites agree to:
Set a big goal around increasing FAFSA completion in your school
Measure and celebrate progress toward this goal in a school-wide FAFSA campaign
Participate in name-by-name FAFSA lookups to identify and target outreach to students who have not yet completed the form
As a reminder…. Muskegon Opportunity has adopted Financial Readiness as ONE of our Collective Impact ACTION goals in moving our county forward in creating a college and career ready culture.
